Question and Answer: CherieDee
Really, one of the pioneers in this fandom... she's started some of the first Meg/Aoshi fics to be linked off this site and really was one of the biggest supporters from the start . You probably have already read her stuff as well at ff.net . CherieDee is also an avid gamer and Streetfighter extraordinaire. She also probably is one of the few writers to have cosplayed Megumi ^_^ (and some of us have seen the evidence!). See some of her Meg/Aoshi stories and fanart archived at her own site, Sentakushi.

1. First off, let's get this monkey out of the way, why Aoshi and Megumi? In other words, what makes them work, in your eyes?

Dynamic. There's a certain tension that seems to just pull at you when one writes or sees the two in action.

Megumi is the type who doesn't always accept things at face value - especially when it comes to emotions of the heart. And Aoshi is the type of person who shows his feelings in the way he acts. Many writers have actually pulled that off beautifully in their writing. It's that 'lurking beneath the surface' possibility that makes writing them fun and so natural.

I think another thing that makes them work is the whole alpha type personality. Aoshi is a dominant male who commands respect - not in the sense because of his occupation as okashira but because of the way he carries himself. And Megumi is obviously no pushover. I don't know if these two would be happier with someone who would bend so easily.Instead of the exploding fireworks most couples have, they have the sparks that simmer. =P

And this brings to mind a discussion I had once with Daiji...These characters would see a relationship/love as something that enhances their lives, not makes it. (If that makes sense.)

2. Are there pairings or stories out there that reminds you of the relationship between Aoshi and Meg?

I'll probably get a couple 'Huh???' for this, but Demitri Maximov and Morrigan Aenslad from the Nightwarriors anime (based on the Darkstalkers video game). I think it's the same strength of character - the alpha type personality.

And of course, Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara - they both were stubborn people who never hesitated to express what they thought (either through words or action). They were also very determined to go after what they wanted.

What can I say, I like decisive people with alpha tendencies.

3. Do you think that Aoshi likes pineapples? Er rather, what do you think Aoshi's favorite food is? Heck, if you feel like it, attach a favorite meal/snack for any and all RK characters! Use your imagination. (no points for people who already have favorite foods--ie Beef Hot Pot or Soba) :D

He probably likes fish.

I'd say cookies for her.

4. What is the most interesting or complex thing about Aoshi and Megumi's characteristics?

Aoshi - his determination (I find it interesting because determination can be a good quality, but there's a flip side to it as well, for example, his desire to fight Kenshin the 2nd time around...)Although I have to admit, that aloof mysterious attitude can make you wonder what REALLY goes on in his mind. And personally, I'd think he's capable of surprising anyone if he was inclined to.

Megumi - her spirit. Megumi represents to me a woman to be admired. She's confident and smart - truly a strong woman. (Apparently a woman's strength is considered threatening to some people. ^_^)
